Barbara Jean (Harness) Cooper, 75 of McDermott, went home to be with the Lord on November 8, 2018 at SOMC Hospice. She was born on February 28, 1943 in Scioto County to the late Franklin and Grace Craig Harness. Barbara is a graduate of Northwest High School class of 1961; she had worked for 35 years for Security Central National Bank and Bank One as an Executive Secretary to the President. Following her retirement from the bank, she began working as a secretary for Coopers’ Trucks and Accessories until 2011. Barbara had served as the President of the Secretaries Association and President of her local women’s bowling league, she was a member of Beech Fork Church in Otway and enjoyed singing in the church choir and volunteering at the Food Pantry and GAP Missions trips to Eastern Kentucky.
Barbara was the happiest spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and granddogs. She enjoyed camping, horseback riding, canoeing and cutting grass. Barbara always had a smile on her face and never met a stranger.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Jim, whom she married on February 28, 1964; one son Jeff (Jodi) Cooper of Wheelersburg; daughter, Lori (Bruce) Bentley Sefiane of Cincinnati and three grandchildren, Cole, Grace and Faith Bentley all of Cincinnati; four brothers, Harold (Linda) Harness, Donald (Ginny) Harness, Jack (Nancy) Harness and David (Debbie) Harness.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Monday, November 12, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Adkins Family Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Pastor Daron Lilly officiating. With interment at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg.
