Dudley Clark “Old Man River” Nichols II, 86 of Portsmouth, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. He was born March 25, 1932 in Portsmouth, the son of the late Dudley Clark and Henrietta Brown Nichols. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Marie Louise Atkinson. Dudley was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion and a member of the Moose and Eagles Lodges and a member of the 40 and 8’s. He was a former business owner in the original Bihl’s Office Supply in Portsmouth, Founding member of the Shawnee Boat Club and had retired from Martin-Marietta after 39 years of service.
Dudley is survived by his wife, Dolores Marie (Prater)Nichols, whom he married in October of 1958 in Greenboro, Indiana; one son, Dudley Clark(Brenda Wolfe) Nichols, III of Portsmouth; 2 daughters, Julie Michelle (Michael) Barber of Reynoldsburg and Cheryl Ann Howe of Ft. St. Luce, Fl; 4 grandchildren, Rebekah Howe, Macey Abrams, Daniel Smith and Declan Nichols; one great grandson, Elijah River; 2 nephews, James Dudley Atkinson of Reynoldsburg, Thomas Atkinson of Portsmouth and one niece, Debra Atkinson.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7 , 2018 at the Adkins Family Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Chaplin Darren Lilly officiating. Graveside military rites will be given by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion following the service in Greenlawn Cemetery.
